My Betta Tanks
Basically, my current setups including my spawning tanks and converted betta barracks. Now this is one page I am planning on expanding, as (hopefully) my setup grows. This page will give you a better visual idea on how to start your own setup, as well as introducing you to the equipment I personally favour.
I will give you a rundown of my current setups, and I will update this page as my betta haven expands - from zero to hero :-D. I will include information like tank specs and internals used for each hub. If there is any additional information you still require after reading the following, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Warkworth Nursery tank -
Tank - Juwel Rio 125ltr
Tank size - 810 x 360 x 500mm (length x depth x height)
Water volume - 125 liters (approx. 33 US gallons)
Internals - Fluval 205 canister filter with sponge filter on inlet tube and 100W heater
Externals - Tetratec APS 150 air pump
Plants - Various plants, green quartz stones and biorb feng shui green rainbow pebbles.
Caretaker/cleaner - Nugget
Backdrop - Warkworth Castle, Warkworth.
Description - To counter the growth issues I have had with my betta fry, I decided I 'needed' a medium sized tank to house the fry once they are about 2 months old. This will hopefully increase their growth rate, and also free a spawning tank for another betta couple. The canister filter on it's own would no dobt suck up the baby fry, so I retro fitted a sponge filter to the intake pipe and voila, sorted!
Work Biorb tank -
Tank - Biorb 30 aquarium
Tank size - Hhmm, it holds 30 ltrs of water!
Water volume - 30 liters (approx. 8 US gallons)
Internals - Biorb internal sponge filter and 50W heater
Plants - A few fake plants, three moss balls and white feng shui pebbles.
Caretaker/cleaner - Drew (bristlenose plec)
Backdrop - Eh, my office!
Description - The biorb keeps me company at work, keeping me chilled and happy during many long hours spent in the office. I also installed the LED light system which alters the light to the time day it is... pretty smart.
Montego Bay spawning tank -
Tank - Hagen Elite Style 35 and stand
Tank size - 500 x 250 x 300mm (length x depth x height)
Water volume - 35 liters (approx. 10 US gallons)
Internals - Huey Hung sponge filter and 50W heater
Externals - Tetratec APS 300 air pump (between three tanks)
Plants - One java fern on bogwood and one live moss ball.
Caretaker/cleaner - Priscilla (bristlenose plec)
Backdrop - Beach in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Description - My first tank I purchased with bettas in mind. I initially had this to house my male bettas, knowing another similiar tank was on its way. But even with both 35 ltrs I could still see the barracks needed expanding. This tank housed my first spawn under this website.
Black River barracks -
Tank - Hagen Elite Style 60 and stand
Tank size - 600 x 300 x 350mm (length x depth x height)
Water volume - 60 liters (approx. 16 US gallons)
Internals - Interpet under-gravel filter and 100W heater
Externals - Tetratec APS 300 air pump (between three tanks)
Plants - Two dracena, one vallisneria spiralis and three moss balls.
Caretaker/cleaner - Priscilla (bristlenose plec)
Backdrop - Black River, Jamaica.
Description - My third tank for my beloved bettas, which is divided into four segments - the males love it. I had a bit of an advenurte picking this one up in Newcastle, but I love the city so I did not mind too much. Priscilla the plecs is placed in here on standby unitl the fry have reached the free swimming stage. The idea behind the dividers is not only to keep the males apart, but I can always remove one or two, depending on the amount of male bettas I own at any one time.
Venice spawning tank -
Tank - Hagen Elite Style 35 and stand
Tank size - 500 x 250 x 300mm (length x depth x height)
Water volume - 35 liters (approx. 10 US gallons)
Internals - Huey Hung sponge filter and 50W heater
Externals - Tetratec APS 300 air pump (between three tanks)
Plants - One java fern on bogwood and two live moss ball.
Caretaker/cleaner - Priscilla (bristlenose plec)
Backdrop - Venice, Italy.
Description - The second tank as mentioned earlier soon followed the purchase of the other 35ltr. I have opted for an almost identical setup as the Montoge Bay tank.
Juwel community tank -
Tank - Juwel Trigon 190 and stand
Tank size - 985 x 700 x 600mm (length x depth x height)
Water volume - 190 liters (approx. 50 US gallons)
Internals - Juwel internal filter system, 200W heater and bubble disc
Externals - Interpet Airvolution AV3 air pump.
Plants - LOTS! Including java fern on bogwood, dracena, vallisneria spiralis and cabona carolinian.
Fish - 5 x rummy nose tetras, 10 x cardinal tetras, 5 x black tetras, 1 x bristlenose plec, 1 x black phantom tetras, 2 x YoYo loaches, 2 x polka dot loaches, 2 x platys and female bettas (of course!)
Caretaker/cleaner - Elvis (bristlenose plec)
Description - My pride and joy. This welcomes all my friends and family when they visit my home, and the kids love it! I have spent many years on getting this tank to where it is now. From transporting the 100 ltrs of mattured tank water from our first home to our current residence, to gradually building a tranquil and happy community of fish. I have had Elvis, my oldest fish, since he was smaller than a tetra back in 2004. He is shall we say, a little bigger now :-D. And of course, this is where I keep my beloved female bettas. All the fish get along (except maybe Tails!). From the energetic polka dot loaches, to the chilled tetras; all is well in my blue planet!
